History
  GOriver was created in the fall of 1998. It began as a merger between people with more than twenty years' experience in the commercial and industrial real estate markets, and two successful software development companies. Clients already included mortgage lenders, manufacturers, maintenance companies, and transportation giants. Systems were in place and had been operating for more than 10 years with a user base of over 300 in seven states.

In eighteen months GOriver created a corporate structure, instituted basic accounting, installed furniture, phones, network equipment, set up computers, created trademarks and copyrights, and contracted with employees.

GOriver focused on real estate software as its initial product line. Internet-based property information submission systems were developed. This allowed us to create complex systems but without the tremendous overhead that full B2B systems would have required. The products that we created have many other applicable uses, as increased product demand will show as we grow into the year 2001.

Our second goal was to develop a large client base and a continued revenue stream by creating and selling MLS software.

Vision
  Fact 1 / The Way it Was: Throughout the centuries the population of the world has concentrated around rivers, which provided transportation, information exchange, travel, and entertainment, among other things.

Fact 2 / The Way it Is: With the availability of DSL and Fiber, the Internet has become the communications river. It provides for and facilitates information exchange via email, provides online entertainment, as well as travel in its broadest sense: you can go anywhere in the world via a computer with Internet connection.

At GOriver we realized we would need a universally translatable name to give durable meaning to our company, and to give it "long term name recognition" in the global market place. The five primary reasons for choosing the GOriver.com name were:

The word "river" appears on maps throughout the world; it has international meaning.

The word "river" is also metaphorical in nature. It represents the flow of information, which is at the heart of the Internet revolution.

The word "go" is also universally recognized; it has a commanding and inviting quality.

The word "river" is easily recognizable from a distance; it is short, and it can be typed with one finger: River River River River River

A river runs through them all. Every newspaper in America, and not only America, contains stories about rivers every day - whether the stories are about environmental issues, the reconstruction of small cities along rivers, economic growth, community affairs and social and art fairs along their banks, they're about people coming together for fun and profit.
